Speaking to the media, the Minister for Roads and Buildings, Mr Dharmana Prasada Rao, said that the roads and road connectively was not developed on par with the improved living conditions of the people in the State. The improved living conditions have resulted in increase of private vehicles and frequency of traveling.
“In my personal study, it was found that sufficient funds were not spent for development of roads for the last 10 years ie since 2001. The number of vehicles increased by four times and the transportation of goods also tremendously increased”, he pointed out. The roads were being damaged due to heavy loaded vehicles, he added.
Though some 20,000 km of roads of Panchayat Raj department have been transferred to the Road and Buildings departments, non-allocation of funds to R&B for them has become a big problem, he opined. However, he exuded confidence that a clear policy would be formulated on the development and maintenance of roads in the State.
