Mobile handset maker Nokia is the most trusted brand in India, followed by Tata at the second slot and Japanese electronics giant Sony at the third position, according to a report released today.

The Korean duo of electronic giants LG and Samsung are plugged in at the fourth and the fifth positions respectively, while Reliance brand stands sixth, said the report titled 'Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2011', published by research firm Trust Research Advisory.

Speaking a the launch function here, Trust Research Advisory CEO N Chandramouli said Maruti drives in at the seventh position, followed by the state insurance agency, LIC, while Airtel dialled in at the ninth position, with Titan stood at the tenth position.

Mr Chandramouli said other highlights of the report are that Sachin Tendulkar stood at the 59th slot, while Mahatma Gandhi at the 232nd slot.

Pepsi has once again come out fizzier at the 36th slot as compared to its rival, Coca Cola, which makes its presence felt down below at the 60th slot, he added.

Mr Chandramouli said the report is first of its kind in India and the company has committed to bring out this report annually for the five years.

The study was conducted across nine cities-Chandigarh, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata--covering 2,310 respondents across corporate houses with revenue above Rs 50 crore and over 200 employees.

The report, which had 61 different components, generated nearly 10 lakh datapoints and 16,000 brands.

Asked about the sponsorship of the Report, Mr Chandramouli said ''We had to manage it on our own. We did not take any funds from any corporate to carry out the study.'' He said the company will recover the money through selling the book on this Report which is priced at Rs 4,350.
