Union minister of state (MoS) for railways K H Muniyappa was in the city to flag off 4 new trains in A.P. he four trains were among 24 news trains announced by the railway minister during the recent railway budget for the state. “Another 20 new trains are in the pipeline and will be launched soon,” the Union minister said. The trains that began their services are: Matri Bhoomi Ladies special MMTS train, Hyderabad-Ajmer superfast express, Kacheguda-Miryalguda
and Kacheguda-Mahbubnagar passenger trains. The minister said it was the late C M Dr YSR’s initiatives that were responsible for A P getting so many trains. He also informed that in the railway budget seven projects, including feasibility study for new railway line between Falaknuma and Umdanagar (MMTS Phase II), Nadikude-Srikalahasti, Bhadrachalam Road-Kovvur, Manuguru-Ramagundam, Gadwal-Macherla, doubling of tracks on Vijayawada-Gudivada-Machilipatnam-Bhimavaram-Narsapur-Nidadavolu and Guntur-Tenali-Repalle sections worth Rs 1,800 crore have been announced where state government has agreed to share 50 per cent cost in principle.
