Congress leader Tagarakunta Konda Reddy, a suspect in slain TDP leader Paritala Ravindra's murder case, was shot dead in his residence in the heart of Anantapur on Tuesday evening. The unidentified assailants escaped in the dark after pumping bullets in his chest.

Sources said four assailants came to Konda Reddy's house in Sainagar around 7 pm and one of them shot Reddy with a revolver from a close range. Reddy died on the spot. A few of his family members were present when the assailants struck.

Konda Reddy had served as mandal parishad president (MPP) of Kanaganipalli, 10 years ago. He was a close aide of slain warlord Maddelacheruvu Suri, who was involved in a bitter faction rivalry with Ravindra. Konda Reddy escaped bid on his life twice when Ravindra was the TDP MLA.

Reddy was also an accused in the murder of T Prabhakar, TDP leader and close aide of Paritala Ravindra, six years ago. Konda Reddy got bail in the Ravindra case last year. Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Anantapur and Kanaganipalli mandal as cops launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

With Tuesday's killing, three suspects -- Suri, Moddu Seenu and Konda Reddy -- in Paritala Ravindra murder case have been eliminated.
