EVV Satyanarayana and Allari Naresh that are churning out comedy after comedy are now back again with yet another comedy movie, Kathi Kantharao. After delivering a hit with Bendu Apparao RMP, the father-son duo has once again focused on rural comedy to bag a hit for Big B Productions. Allari Naresh fans must be eagerly searching for Kathi Kantharao review to know whether the most bankable hero has once again delivered the goods or not. So, without wasting much time let’s get into Kathi Kantharao Movie Review…

Story:

Kathi Kantharao (Allari Naresh) is a police constable with two married sisters and another two sisters who are ready for marriage. He has to fulfill the desires of his greedy brother in laws and also search right matches for his younger sisters. Whole family burden is on him and he also signs an agreement to his father that he won’t marry until his sisters are happily settled in life. However, Kantharao loves and marries Ratnam (Kamna Jethmalani) but keeps it a secret until he fulfills the word given to his father. Rest of the story is about how Kantharao get through all his burdens and how does he keeps his marriage a secret from his family.

Analysis:

The plot point of this film is similar to EVV, Rajendra Prasad’s classic comedy Appula Apparao. First things first, Kathi Kantharao is nowhere near Appula Apparao in any aspect, be it comedy or screenplay. Kathi Kantharao is just an example to show how much sheen and shine EVV has lost in all these years. However, Kantharao works in parts. There are some funny scenes and sequences but they are very few and far between.

First half of the film is racy with some really funny one-liners that had audiences in splits. Second half starts on a different note though. The focus completely shifts to a village and Kota Srinivasa Rao character. Although Kota character has link with the actual story, director takes too much time to establish it and a good half hour is wasted on it. Audiences almost lose their patience at this point as the director has gone for a long walk with his good old buddy Kota. However, things start to pick up pace once Kathi Kantharao reenters the scene. Climax of the film is in typical EVV style but the fun is totally missing in this part.

Performances:

Allari Naresh has once again rocked with his fantastic comic timing. Kota Srinivasa Rao has played a role that is almost equal to the hero. He enters the scene in the second half but from then on only his character conflict drives this film. The senior actor excelled as a power thirsty villager. Kamna Jethmalani proves yet again that she can’t act a bit. She is at her best when scorching the screen in songs. Venu Madhav didn’t do anything special but is bearable. Krishna Bhagavan, Srinivasa Reddy has nothing to do. Dharmavarapu is good as irresponsible father. Rest of the cast did their part as per the requirements.

Technicalities:

Singer Mallikarjun turned music director with this film. He scores a big zero with his work. Almost every song worked as a cigarette break. Prasad Varma’s dialogs are OK. His one-liners in first half are good. But he failed to continue the same spark throughout the film. Cinematography is up to the standards of a low budget film. Editor should have removed at least fifteen minutes of footage from the second half to make it look slick. Production values are standard.

EVV Satyanarayana is surely out of form. He is not anywhere near his golden days where he scored century after century at will. Saying so, he has not withered out completely. He is now like an ordinary batsman who can score twenty or thirty odd runs with a seventy strike rate.

Plus Points:

- Comedy in first half
- Allari Naresh’s confident portrayal

Minus points:

- Boring second half
- Music

Final Word:

Kathi Kantharao is only for frontbenchers. This type of comedy cannot be lapped up by the audience who look out for sensible comedy. The film is bit loud in every aspect and you can go for it if you enjoyed watching films such as Kithakithalu, Bendu Apparao, Betting Bangarraju etc.
