The state and Hyderabad are heading for bone chilling days. Harsh chilly days and biting cold nights are set to continue what with both day and night temperatures dipping considerably by 4 to 6 degrees. Medak shivered with a minimum temperature of 6 degree Celsius, while Adilabad recorded a low of 8 degrees.

This was the lowest temperature recorded in Medak district and also in the state this winter, according to scientists of the agriculture research station in Adilabad. While north Telangana is in the grip of an intense cold wave, Sunday was the coldest day in Hyderabad in the last five years with the mercury falling to 9.8 degrees. It was on December 27, 2005, that Hyderabad had recorded a minimum temperature of 8.7 degrees. Last year, the lowest temperature recorded in Hyderabad was 11.2 degrees on December 25. On Sunday, the Met department issued a weather warning, stating that intense cold wave conditions would prevail in Medak, Adilabad, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts. The officials said there were chances that the temperatures would come down further by a few degrees in the next 48 hours.

The city's lowest temperature in its recorded history was 6.1 degree on January 8, 1946 and that of the state a little lower at 4.4 degrees which was recorded in Nizamabad on December 17, 1897.
