Guzaarish Review, starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, is one of the few movies which should be watched with heart and not just with eyes. Guzaarish movie is not made for box office. It is certainly not for the holiday crowds. So, the popcorn batch could happily stay away from Guzaarish. What’s so great about this film? Read on Guzaarish Movie Review…

Story:

Ethan Mascarenhas (Hrithik Roshan) is a magician confined to a wheel chair due to a fatal accident. Ethan suffers serious injuries when one of his magic tricks goes awfully wrong turning him into a paraplegic. He then turns a Radio Jockey at an FM station Radio Zindagi and his show talks of hope and happiness in life. Ethan is taken care by nurse Sofia (Aishwarya Rai). After spending fourteen years of immobilized life, Ethan takes a big decision to end up his life with dignity. Ethan files a petition in court for mercy killing. Lawyer Devyani (Shernaz Patel) takes up this case on behalf of Ethan, her friend. Meanwhile Omar (Aditya Roy Kapoor) enters the picture as he aims to learn magic from Ethan. Omar impresses Ethan and the latter agree to pass on his legacy to him. Rest of the story tells you about what happened to Ethan’s plea, the silent love he has shared with Sofia.

Analysis:

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, yet again stuns you with his choice of scripts. Ethan Mascarenhas is one of the very rare characters we get to see on Indian screen. SLB takes up a completely different tale that has little scope to be made into a feature film and yet makes it a great cinema. This film takes you into the world of Ethan, the magician right from the start and makes you walk along with him. You will smile along with him, you will cry along with him, even though it sound filmy, you will want to die along with him!

Guzaarish review can’t be analyzed completely. Words can’t match that unmatched magical experience. SLB has cast a magic spell and is wonderfully supported by his cast. However, SLB should’ve tried to make this film to appeal for aam junta as the film is more like a Hinglish flick. The generous usage of English is one of the major drawbacks for this film to be limited to some sections of audience. Also Hrithik’s hardcore fans would be terribly disappointed to see their matinee idol confined to a wheel chair and waiting for the moment to die. The proceedings are exceedingly slow and the mood of the film is very arty. There are some brilliantly canned scenes and there are few dumb ones too. Guzaarish can’t be declared as Bhansali’s best but would certainly end up as one his best works.

Performances:

Hrithik Roshan should be lauded for taking up this role. This is a challenge for him as he doesn’t have a chance to move his finger tip even. He is asked to convey anything through his eyes and the great actor in him passed the acid test in flying colors. Kudos to him! Aishwarya Rai continues to impress. She is growing as an actress with each film. This is certainly a feather in her cap. Aditya Roy Kapoor is energetic and confident. Shernaz Patel is wonderful. Everyone in the cast has given sincere performances making Guzaarish a decent watch all the way.

Technicalities:

Cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee scores many points. Every frame of the film is pure art. The lighting schemes elevate various moods of the film. Bhansali is aptly supported by Sudeep to make Guzaarish look like a beautiful painting in each and every frame. Music composed by Bhansali himself is very good. Background score is one of the major assets. Art director gets a pat on his back. Production values are of high standard.

Plus Points:

- Hrithik Roshan performance
- Cinematography

Minus points:

- Dead slow proceedings
- Too arty feel of the film
- Limited appeal

Final Word:

If you are looking for a film like Black, then Guzaarish is certainly for you. If you are expecting an entertaining roller coaster ride stay away from this. Guzaarish movie review would be incomplete without stating that this film is a must watch for all movie lovers. We strongly recommend it.
