All India Congress Committee (AICC) recently asked the Andhra Pradesh state government to form a list. The list should include all the names of the people who committed suicides after listening to the tragic news of the death of former Chief Minister Late Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy. The State Government, in association with AICC, will give all the families of the listed persons an ex-gratia of Rs. 1 lakh per family, on the occasion of Y.S.R’s death anniversary. The party also ‘invited’ Y.S.R’s son Jagan to make the ‘event’ of distributing the checks to the affected families.
After this development Y.S.Jagan has written an open letter to Sonia Gandhi thanking her for reaching out to those who were affected by the said suicides. He also mentioned that he has been doing the same with his ‘Odarpu’ Yatra. He also requested other MLAs and MPs to ‘come along with him’ to console the affected families.
While the Congress high command wanted to score a point against Jagan by announcing the ex-gratia, Jagan is trying to prove to people that congress is just following his path.
This situation sure reminds us of the film ‘Peepli Live’ which runs on the similar theme of suicide(s). The ‘death politics’ of the state will surely inspire more films, or probably might be studied in Universities in times to come. There will be no films on why tax payers’ money was not used to stop the suicides! Media won’t like it, neither will our politicians.
