There is good news in store for school and college students. The transport department is planning to instruct private bus operators to facilitate students to travel in their buses using bus passes. Master Mohan Lal, Transport Minister, Punjab, said, "I have assigned this work to Raju Khanna, President of Youth Akali Dal. He will work out the modalities on the mode of payment which the government will give to private bus operators. It will take about a month's time and then private bus operators will also start picking up school and college students on the basis of a bus pass."

However, Arun Sharma, executive member, Punjab Students' Union, said, "It has been more than a year when the Transport department started making this promise to students. Last year in March, a meeting was also held with the Transport minister and he told us that this facility will be provided to students soon. More than a year has passed but there is no progress on the issue."

Meanwhile, the representatives of the Punjab Students' Union handed over a memorandum to Rahul Tiwari, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, on Saturday for the second time. The Union has demanded compensation to families of deceased students, who died in road accidents during the span of 15 days. The accidents took place due to the negligence of Punjab Roadways staff.
