For the US Army trying to rebuild the war torn Afghanistan, ideas are coming from strange places. They are inspired by the India’s very own low cost toilet model designed and developed by the Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh International.
The US Army is planning to construct 40 public toilet complexes linked with the biogas digester application, based on the Sulabh International, in Kandhahar. Kabul Municipality has already introduced Sulabh Toilet Complexes in Kabul.
The US Army is now in touch with Kabul Municipality, the Afghanistan Ministry of Energy and Water and also with Sulabh International.
Sulabh International’s pioneering ideas has helped many underdeveloped and developing nations to make the most use of India’s low cost sanitation. Some of the countries that have already made use of this unique system are Afghanistan, South Africa, China, Bhutan, Nepal, Laos, Ethiopia etc. America soon joins this list, though for a different reason.
