Doctors go on strike, medical services paralysed

Protesting police lathicharge on them, resident doctors of three government hospitals have gone on a strike, paralysing health care facilities in the district. On Saturday night, attenders of an injured patient Nemi Chand Mali misbehaved with resident doctors on duty at MDM government hospital, official sources said.

A scuffle soon broke out between the medics and the kin of the patient following which police resorted to lathicharge to control the situation, they added. Demanding action against senior police and administration officials, residents doctors went on the strike yesterday. Their colleagues in Ajmer and Jaipur have also joined the strike which has crippled medical services, they said. K K Sahu, President of Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors said that the strike will continue until government takes action against those involved in the lathicharge.

Some doctors of private hospitals here have also joined the stir. Thirteen patients have died in Ummed (7), MGH (5) and MDM (1) government hospitals here, they said.
